Because Netflix isn’t the only post-work plan
Do you ever feel like your 9-5 job is eating away at your soul? Are you just living for the weekends? Or maybe you’re lucky and truly enjoy spending 8 hours each day at work, but still wish you had more time for fun adventures.

The thing is, we’re not built to run on coffee and spreadsheets alone. We need balance. We need fun. We need adventure. And that means finding time for things that make us feel alive (and if that’s spreadsheets, well, lucky you!)

Your 9-5 might pay the bills, but your 5-9 is where the real magic happens. It’s where you discover passions, pick up new hobbies, and most importantly, have a bloody good time.

Whether it’s picking up a paintbrush, going on a trail run, or even a quick SUP, it’s crucial to carve out some ‘you time’. Don’t save all the fun for the weekend. Your weekdays deserve adventure too.

But how the heck do you fit it in?

There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is we can’t get your boss to reduce your working hours (soz). But the good news is we have some tips to help you make the most of your 5-9 after your 9-5 job.

  1. It doesn’t have to be grand or time-consuming. Small, consistent efforts make a big difference. Maybe it’s an hour playing footy with your mates, a short cooking class, or a ‘hike’ around your neighbourhood. Find what makes you tick and go with it.

  2. You don’t need to go super gung-ho and try to fit in a new hobby every night after work. Your 5-9 should be about unwinding and enjoying yourself, not adding more stress. Start with 30 minutes of something you love and build from there. It’s about quality, not quantity. And hey, if some nights all you want to do is veg out in front of the TV, that’s perfectly fine too.

  3. Plan ahead. A little planning can go a long way in making sure you fit in your 5-9 after your 9-5. At the start of each week, jot down a few activities you wanna try to do after work. Whether it’s hitting a new trail, learning how to surf, or simply some quality time with family, having a plan helps you make the most of your evenings. But… also don’t forget to be flexible – sometimes the best nights are the unplanned ones.
So, there you have it. Embrace your 5-9 and start living it up on the weekdays, and not just the weekends.
