Bring back the spontaneity of our youth
Remember those lazy school afternoons, lying in the park with your best mates, dreaming of the moment the first person would pass their provisional license? You’d dream up long lists of places you’d go to, playlists curated. You’d tell yourself you’d just throw a backpack into the car and drive somewhere ‘spontaneous’. The word came to embody everything we wanted to be as young people: bold, adventurous, with no care or worry in the world.
What happened to the free spirited lightness of our youth?
“Kids,” I hear you grunt.
“Real life, idiot,” with the eye roll.
Listen, we get it. We are you too.
But let me just ask you something. When was the last time you were spontaneous? When you hopped in the car with no destination in mind, just to see where the road would take you?
When was the last time you booked a trip away for your partner? A surprise ‘just because’? Sometimes the people we love need reminders that we love them in ways they don’t usually expect. It doesn’t have to cost any money. It can be a picnic across the road with a box of weetbix from the cupboard and a bottle of milk. Yes, you feel kind of ridiculous eating cereal in the park on a blanket under the tree. But it’s never about what. It’s about who and why.
This week, we want to challenge you to do something a little spontaneous. Get out of that cozy routine and do something different. It doesn’t have to be big, but we promise it’ll bring you some joy.
Love,
Nakie HQ
