No sun? No worries! Here’s how to still have fun after the sun goes down
With winter creeping up fast, it’s easy to start hibernating until the sun makes a comeback. But here’s the good news: shorter days don’t have to mean adventure is off the cards.
Winter nights (and early sun-less mornings) are the perfect time for adventures. So chuck on your warmest jacket, because we’re dishing out some of our fave ways to keep your adventurous spirit burning even when the sun calls it quits early.
After work run club It seems like everyone’s part of a run club these days, and it’s easy to see why.. Running alone is a slog, but in a group? It’s a heck of a lot of fun. Plus, some run clubs will finish off the night with a well-deserved beer at the pub. Not a bad way to cap off the day, if you ask us. |
Sunrise swim club Too tired after work to exercise? Maybe you’re more of a sunrise swimmer than a post-work jogger. Sure, the air is pretty darn crisp and the water’s even colder, but an early-morning plunge with like-minded water-lovers will kickstart your day like nothing else. Just make sure you pack your winter woollies (uggs, beanie and a thermos of hot choccie) to warm you up after! |
SUP at sunset We reckon one of the best ways to SUP is at sunset. The sky lights up in pinks and oranges while you glide across the water, leaving the day's stress behind. Just you, your board, and the gorgeous twilight colours. What a way to end the day. Just make sure you’re back on shore before last light, or at least have a head torch with you for safety! |
Indoor bouldering/rock climbing If you don’t like the idea of being outdoors in the dark, no worries! That’s why we love the idea of indoor bouldering and rock climbing. Swap the cold for a warm climbing gym where you can challenge yourself and let off some steam on routes that will test your mettle (but not your tolerance for the icy winter winds). It’s a fun way to hang out with friends and get your heart pumping after dark. |
Join a club sport Ever considered reliving your youth and joining a team sport? The winter months offer a tonne of options like netball, futsal, basketball, AFL, Oz-tag… you name it. Club sports are a great way to keep active in a fun, friendly and safe way once the sun’s gone down. Plus, there are leagues for all different levels, from friendly & social to competitive, so don’t worry if you’re not a pro. |
As you can see, there’s plenty of fun to be had no matter what the weather's doing, even when the sun clocks off early. Just remember to take some extra safety precautions—because the only wild ride you want is the one you planned, not an unexpected trip to the physio.
See ya out there,
