The camping items we can’t live without

If you’re anything like us, you love gear. The adventures, the views, the experiences … they all come second to the fun of shopping for the gear. If you’re anything like us, you love gear. The adventures, the views, the experiences… they all come second to the fun of shopping for the gear.

We’re sharing some of our favourite lightweight gear, ‘I can’t believe you packed that camping’ gear and the surprising additions you can find in your local supermarket. Nothing in this list is sponsored, it’s simply because the Nakie team uses these products and actually love them.

1. Flextail Tiny Repel

Mosquitoes have the power to completely ruin a camping trip. The Flextail Tiny Repel is a lantern, a powerbank, and an insect repellent. The trifecta!

2. AeroPress

Going camping often means giving up creature comforts, but any coffee drinker knows that the morning brew isn’t just a ‘nice to have’. It’s essential. The AeroPress is lightweight, easy to clean and allows you to enjoy good quality coffee on the road.

3. Portable Solar Panel

No one likes to fall asleep to the sound of someone’s car running because they want their phone charged. Get yourself a solar panel, lay it out in the sun and scroll away without disturbing the peace. Better for the environment too!

4. Plastic Container

The humble plastic container – easily forgotten, but a small mercy when it makes the packing list. There are always leftovers from a big cook-up so having a container to store them is so handy. Gone are the days of letting the leftovers fester in the pot overnight.

5. Campfire Grill

If you want to increase the variety of meals you can cook while camping, a grill is your best friend. You can go really bougie (go down the Google rabbit-hole, we dare you) or you can just make use of an old oven rack.

6. Picnic Blanket

Sometimes you just want to lie under a tree and have a nap. But the tent is stuffy and sticky, the chair isn’t giving the comfort you’re looking for and one of your friends has already snagged the Nakie hammock (😉).

The humble picnic blanket is your answer. Plus, it ups the aesthetic of a campsite.

7. FlipFuel Fuel Transfer Device

If you use little gas canisters and you keep buying new ones because you’re afraid there’s not enough in your baby one, get a FlipFuel device! It’ll help you transfer gas from one canister to another one, saving you money and making sure nothing goes to waste.

8. Teva Ember Moc Slippers

In summer, thongs will do the job, but in the depths of winter it’s so handy to have a slip-on shoe that won’t leave you wondering if you’ve sacrificed some of your extremities to the elements. Tevas are our favs.
