How deep breathing every day can change your life

How deep breathing every day can change your life

Do you ever feel like you can't catch your breath? And have you ever noticed just how good it feels once you finally get a deep, belly breath in? Well, that, dear friends, is the power of deep breathing.

Also known as belly breathing, deep breathing is all about taking slow, deep breaths that fill your lungs and make your belly rise.

Unlike shallow breaths that only reach your upper chest, deep breathing uses your diaphragm and helps you get more oxygen in and more carbon dioxide out.

This simple technique can do absolute miracles for both your body and mind.

The benefits of deep breathing

  • Reduces stress: Feel like you’re carrying too much on your shoulders? Deep breathing can help lighten the load. When you breathe deeply, it calms your nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.

  • Sharpens your focus: Oxygen is brain food. When you take deep breaths, you increase the oxygen supply to your brain, which helps you think clearer and concentrate better. It’s an instant brain boost without the need for caffeine.

  • Makes you healthier: Deep breathing isn’t just about feeling good mentally—it’s a physical health boost too. It helps lower blood pressure, improves circulation, and even strengthens your immune system. Plus, it can also help you digest your food better.

  • Creates emotional balance: Ever notice how your breath changes with your emotions? Deep breathing can help you stay calm and balanced. It’s a handy tool for managing anger, frustration, or sadness, giving you a sense of inner peace and control.

How to practise deep breathing

Starting with deep breathing is a breeze and can be done anytime, anywhere (obviously not under water, but like, anywhere else).

  1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes if it helps you relax.
  2. Place one hand on your belly and the other on your chest. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, letting your belly rise as it fills with air. Your chest should remain relatively still.
  3. Breathe out slowly through your mouth, feeling your belly fall. Again, your chest should stay mostly still.
  4. Continue this deep breathing for a few minutes, focusing on the rise and fall of your belly. Try to clear your mind and just breathe.

Deep breathing works best when you make it a daily habit. Try it first thing in the morning to start your day with zen vibes, or at night to unwind before bed.

You can also use it as a quick reset during a busy day. Whenever you feel stressed, take a moment to breathe deeply and reset.

It’s not a magic cure to all of life’s problems, but my gosh, it certainly helps. Once you try and feel the effects of deep breathing, you’ll never look back.

Alright, your daily habit starts now. Lock your phone / close your laptop and start deep breathing.

We’ll catch ya on the bliss side,
